He was the founder and former Chairman of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist–Leninist), a role from which he stood down in 2018. The party was founded in 2004 as a result of a split in the Arthur Scargill-led Socialist Labour Party. In 1991, Brar founded the Stalin Society, an anti-revisionist group defending Joseph Stalin.
