"[to Thorin] I am Bard the guardsman. We are honored by your presence. Your grandfather lives in our songs and legends. What help we can offer will be yours, and we trust to your gratitude when the dragon Smaug is killed and your kingdom is regained."
"If these be our last moments, men, let us live them with honour."
"Thorin, at your service. We did not mean to trespass. We were merely seeking shelter from the storm."
"The goblins are upon us! Save the ponies from the goblins!"
"Our lookout has found something."
"Friends, we are gathered here at the home of this most excellent hobbit. May the hair on his toes never fall outǃ"
"Thief, thiefǃ Bagginsǃ We hates it, hates it foreverǃ"
"Bless us and splash us, my preciousǃ"
"Your story, Bilbo, has the ring of truth. Yes, it rings true. You need say no more."
"Always remember, Bilbo, when your heart wants lifting, think of pleasant things."
"ENOUGH! I am Gandalf... and Gandalf means ME!"
"[first lines of the film; narrating] In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Many ages ago, when this ancient planet was not quite so ancient, long before men recorded his history, here was the time of Middle Earth, where men shared his days with elves, dwarves, wizards, goblins, dragons and... hobbits. In the lands of Middle Earth, in an area known as the Shire, there was a village named Hobbiton. There, in a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, nor a dry, bare, sandy hole. It was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort."
"[in his mind] Now you're in for it at last, Bilbo Baggins. Why are you here? You've no use for dragon treasures. Feel the worm's heat, Mr. Baggins? A few more steps and you shall see the old dragon Smaug at last. You can still turn back, you know. But to go on, to take those steps, that would be the bravest of all moments. Whatever happens afterwards is nothing. Yes, here is where you fight your real battle, Mr. Bilbo Baggins. Do you go back?"
"You think it's my job to go in first? I've already gotten you out of two messes not in the original bargain. And who will come with me?"
"We were fed, fattened, given supplies, and two weeks later found us nearing the end of our journey. And chances were it would be a very horrible end, indeed."
"[while smuggling the Dwarves in barrels] Oh, stop complaining! I never promised to burgle you first class accommodations."
"Now, you are all free. I know the spiders' poisons have made you weak. But you must follow me. Quickly!"
"Dawn take you all, and be stone to you!"
"To Gandalf: As per your instructions, I am keeping this log of our journey through Mirkwood Forest. I shall make good use of it someday as a basis for my memoirs, which I intend to call: There and Back Again: A Hobbit's Holiday. The days are terrible, and the nights are impossible, for we are hungry and thirsty. The berries which grow here are hideous. Everything about these woods is unpleasant. One day, we decided someone should climb to the top of the tallest tree and have a look. I couldn't argue. My contract is vague on several points. There are moments which can change a person for all time. And I suddenly wondered if I would ever see my snug hobbit hole again. I wondered if I actually wanted to."
"I am Mr. Bilbo Baggins. I've lost my dwarves, my wizard and my way."
"No hat, no stick, no pipe, not even a pocket handkerchief. How can one survive?"
"Dear me, no. We hobbits are plain, quiet folk. Adventures make one late for dinner."
"For me it was a huge physical challenge, the most complicated challenge I’ve had."
"Her name is not 'Sticks'. She's Elora Danan, the future Empress of Tir Asleen...and the last thing she's gonna want is a hairy chest!"
"Absolutely, under no condition whatsoever, is anyone in this family to fall in love with that baby!"
"You're a great warrior, and a swordsman. And you're ten times bigger than I am, stupid!"
"Goodbye, Sticks. If you really are a princess, take care of him."
"Well my mother raised me on blackroot. It's good for you. It puts hair on your chest, doesn't it, Sticks?"
"Let me out of here, Airk. Give me a sword, I'll win this war for you."
"Burglekutt, let me out of here. I'll take care of the baby, I swear. Just let me out of here... Please. Vohnkar, let me borrow that spear just for a minute. Well... Well at least give me some water. Burglekutt, don't leave me alone here with these two! UHH! Well that was really stupid, Peck."
"Get your hair out of my face or I'll chop it off."
"Ooh, I'm really scared. No! Don't! There's a- a peck here with an acorn pointed at me!"
""I love you, Sorsha?!" I don't love her, she kicked me in the face! I hate her! (confused/grabs his head).... don't I?"
"Don't play with that wand! It holds vast powers. Only a real sorcerer can use it, not a stupid peck like you."
"Elora Danan must survive. She must fulfill her destiny and bring about the downfall of Queen Bavmorda. Her powers are growing like an evil plague. Unless she is stopped, Bavmorda will control the lives of your village, your children, everyone. All creatures of good heart need your help, Willow. The choice is yours."
"Magic is the bloodstream of the universe. Forget all you know, or think you know. All that you require is your intuition."
"I will consult the bones!! [Disperses the bones on the ground, pausing for a moment, then whispering to Willow discreetly] ... The bones tell me... nothing."
"I didn't ask you to bring me a dead nursemaid. Sorsha, you're useless."
"General Kael, at last."
"You will do as I say, child."
"Why is it with my powers and the strength of my great army you cannot so much as find one - little - child?"
"PREPARE FOR THE RITUAL!"
"You dare to challenge me? You're not warriors. You're pigs! Toa thonna mondarr! Nocklith! Vohkbar! YOU'RE ALL PIGS! PIGS! PIGS!"
"Traitor child. I must despise you now."
"Is that the extent of your power, little one?"
"Now you will watch me call upon the power of the universe to send that child into the Netherworld! NOW PLACE IT ON THE ALTAR!"
"You're a fool. I shall destroy you and the child with you."
"I think the spells were really great. I loved the spells because there's no way they can mean anything, they're words — Lockmore Danalora, Lofashock Danu — I can still remember it after all these years. They sound like something that could create magic. I think they were really great. I like the Brownies as characters. I thought they were really interesting in the idea of scale, they were smaller than me but they had these rather antagonistic personalities because they're trying to make up for being smaller than everyone else. I quite enjoyed them."
"For me that was sort of like going to grad school."
"There was a new level of understanding that I needed to come to terms with the greater canvas, the greater cinematic canvas. Of course, George Lucas is sort of a natural master in that regard and [the project] was his idea. So while I was given global latitude — and it was even the first time I was given final cut, George did that — but it was his story and I was very much under his wing and really reveling in that and growing from it."
