"This isnβt just a game. Iβm talking about actual life and death stuff."
"First to the key!"
"The contest has got to be about connecting with someone, connecting with the world."
"Are you ready?"
"Welcome to the rebellion, Wade."
"Ralph Ineson β Rick"
"Perdita Weeks β Karen "Kira" Underwood"
"The Oasis was the brainchild of James Halliday. He and his partner, Ogden Morrow, released the first Oasis build in 2025. It was an instant success, and it made them both very rich. But Morrow was out of the picture after a few years. And Halliday, he wasn't just the owner of the world's biggest company; he was like a god. People loved him. They worshipped him as much as his creation. And then, on January 7, 2040...he died. What he left behind changed everything."
"Artefacts. Those were key. Halliday made sure the Oasis was littered with enough randomly powerful stuff, that anyone could win if they had the skills. Death matches and artefact hunts are a good way to coin snatch, but depending on your level of armour, they're risky. You see, everyone starts the same, but the more coins you make, the more you level up. If you get killed, your avatar can come back to life, but you lose all your stuff. Everything you've ever worked for. All your money, your clothes, your weapons... Since people spend most of their time in the Oasis, losing your shit means...well, losing your shit."
"Susan Lynch β Alice Watts"
"The challenge is to find three keys, but in five years, no one has even got one key, and the big scoreboard, still empty. Some long-forgotten Gunter cracked the first clue and found the first challenge, then this portal appeared. But the challenge to find the first key was a race designed by Halliday that was so hard, no one had ever finished it. The only ones still trying are the Gunters β as in "egg hunters" β like me and Sho and Daito and my best friend Aech. Oh, and of course, the Sixers. The Sixers work for IOI β Innovative Online Industries. They're the second largest company in the world, with desires on becoming the first, which is why they're putting everything they've got into winning Halliday's contest. We call them Sixers because that's the company rule β no name, just numbers. They have a support team made up of Halliday scholars. Like me, they spend all their time studying pop culture that Halliday was obsessed with, trying to find clues to solve the contest. They're just following the orders of the head of IOI, this dickweed named Nolan Sorrento."
"Clare Higgins β Mrs. Gilmore"
"These days, reality is a bummer. Everyone's looking for a way to escape, and that's why Halliday, that's why he was such a hero to us. He showed us that we could go somewhere without going anywhere at all. You don't need a destination when you're running on an omnidirectional treadmill with quadraphonic pressure-sensitive underlay. James Halliday saw the future, and then he built it. He gave us a place to go, a place called the Oasis."
"Win Morisaki β Toshiro / Daito"
"This is the Oasis. It's a place where the limits of reality are your own imagination. You can do anything, go anywhere. Like the Vacation Planet. Surf a 50-foot monster wave in Hawaii, you can ski down the Pyramids, you can climb Mount Everest with Batman. Check out this place. It's a casino the size of a planet! You can lose your money there, you can get married, you can get divorced, you can...you can go in there. People come to the Oasis for all the things they can do, but they stay because of all the things they can be: tall, beautiful, scary, a different sex, a different species, live action, cartoon, it's all your call. Yeah, that's me...well, that's my avatar, at least until I feel like changing it. Except for eating, sleeping and bathroom breaks, whatever people want to do, they do it in the Oasis. And since everyone is here, this is where we meet each other. This is where we make friends."
"I was born in 2027, after the corn syrup droughts, after the bandwidth riots, after people stopped trying to fix problems and just tried to outlive them. My parents, they didn't make it through those times, so I live here in Columbus, Ohio with my aunt Alice. In 2045, Columbus is the fastest growing city in the world. It's where Halliday and Morrow started Gregarious Games."
"Hannah John-Kamen β F'Nale Zandor"
"Planet Doom. The most dangerous place in the Oasis...and a pretty great place to pick up coins. Figures Aech would be there. Aech is my best friend in the Oasis. He's my best friend, period, even though I've never actually met him in the real world."
"[reading the second clue] A creator who hated his own creation. A hidden key, a leap not taken. Retrace your steps, escape your past and the key will be yours at last."
"Letitia Wright β Reb (Safe House)"
"Hey, Greenie."
"We have come a long way together. So many have sacrificed– so much to make this place possible. Your friends– and your family. So here's to the ones who couldn't be here, here's to the friends we lost. This place is for you. It's for all of us. But this, this is for them. So in your own time, in your own way– come make your peace. And welcome to the Safe Haven!"
"[Newt: How? H-h-how is this possible? We watched you die.] No, you left me to die. And if we hadn't found you when we did, you'd be dead right now."
"Everybody relax. We're all on the same side here."
"Will Poulter as Gally, a Glader who survived being impaled in the chest with a spear thrown at him by Minho and now works for Lawrence, who rescued and healed him of the spear wound."
"I fought back. Tried to, anyway."
"I'LL KILL YOU!!! YOU TRAITOR!!! YOU KILLED THEM ALL!!!"
"All I know is– they kept talking about a city."
"I like her."
"You're lucky you found us at all. They had us on the move a lot. It felt like something big was happening."
"[After shooting Paige in the back and stabbing Thomas in the neck with a tranquilizer dart] Oh, Thomas– you should've run."
"Rosa Salazar as Brenda, a survivor of the Flare who now works for the Right Arm."
"Tell Minho "Hi" for me."
"I didn't think there were any cities left."
"It's been a few years, but– I've been there. The Last City. That's what WCKD called it. It was their whole base of operations. If that city is still standing, that's the last place you wanna go, hermano. That's the Lion's Den."
"[Jorge: Do you know this guy?] He was an old friend."
"[Thomas: Jorge, how do we get in?] Don't look at me, hermano. Those walls are new. I guess that's WCKD's answer for everything. [Brenda: Well, we ain't gonna figure it out from up here. Let's go!]"
"Giancarlo Esposito as Jorge, a middle-aged man who leads a band of survivors alongside Brenda."
"[Last words] Tommy–"
"Lock down the building, send everyone up to 20, and someone shut off those GODDAMN SIRENS! [WCKD Soldier: Yes, sir.]"
"[Voiceover as Thomas reads the letter] Dear Thomas– this is the first letter I can remember writing. Obviously, I don't know if I wrote any before the Maze. But even if it's not my first, it's likely to be my last. I want you to know that I'm not scared. Well, not of dying, anyway. It's more forgetting. It's losing myself to this virus, that's what scares me. So every night, I've been saying their names out loud. Alby, Winston, Chuck. And I just repeat them over and over like a prayer, and it– and it all comes flooding back. Just the little things like where the sun used to hit the Glade at that perfect moment right before it slipped beneath the walls. And I remember the taste of Frypan's stew. I never thought I'd miss that stuff so much. And I remember you. I remember the first time you came up in the Box, just a scared little Greenie who couldn't even remember his own name. But from that moment you ran into the Maze, I knew I would follow you anywhere. And I have. We all have. If I could do it all over again, I would. And I wouldn't change a thing. And my hope for you– is when you're looking back years from now, you'll be able to say the same. The future's in your hands now, Tommy. And I know you'll find a way to do what's right. You always have. Take care of everyone for me. And take care of yourself. You deserve to be happy. Thank you for being my friend. Goodbye, mate. Newt."
"YOU'RE A TRAITOR!!! WE TRUSTED YOU!!!"
"Dexter Darden as Frypan, one of the Gladers who escaped from the Maze."
"Why you helping us, Gally? I put a spear through your chest."
"Hey, Greenie. Good luck."
"She's right. This is all just a means to an end. You used to understand that, Thomas. No matter what you think of me, I am not a monster. I'm a doctor. I swore an oath to find a cure! No matter the cost. I just need more time."
"Dylan O'Brien as Thomas, one of the Gladers who escaped from the Maze."
"All right, listen up. I know you've all been through hell. I wish I could say our troubles are over– but we're not through this yet. WCKD's still out there. They're not giving up. 'Cause you got something they want. They took you because you're immune to a plague that's wiping out the human race– and they think you're worth sacrificing to find a cure. Well, I don't. So in two days, when we get this tub of rust seaworthy, we're getting the hell outta here. We're gonna go to a place where WCKD will never find you. A place you can start over. A place you can call home."
"Kaya Scodelario as Teresa, one of the Gladers who escaped from the Maze."
"Do you know what this place is, Thomas? It's a lifeboat. And the whole world might be sinking, but– it doesn't mean that we have to go down with it."
