"February 18, 1887 (Jan. 26, lunar calendar), afternoon Sah, sah, I shall level the ground. Has everyone assembled, has everyone assembled? Listen and understand well. All that I have said until now was put into a container of truth. But now God has opened the portals and stepped out. Because of My love for you, My children, the Parent shortened Her life by twenty-five years to step out and save the world from now. Observe well. Observe well what the path has been and what the path will become. When I asked whether I should open the portals or keep them closed to level the ground, you answered, “Please open the portals and level the ground.” I have done as you wished. Sah, there was a thing I had intended to give to My children but I was not able. I shall bestow this truth on you step by step hereafter. Remember this well."

"April 23, 1887, around 4:00 pm This Residence is the Four-fronted Mirror Residence. Even if you wish to come here, you may not be able to come. I shall not tell those who have come here to go away, nor shall I tell those who do not wish to come here to come."

"August 25, 1887 (July 7, lunar calendar), 11:00 pm Everything has been the work of God. Nothing whatsoever can be understood even by scholars. It cannot be easily understood. Nothing proceeds according to a human mind. Not a thing has been born of a human mind."

"January 8, 1888 (Nov. 25, 1887, lunar calendar) Sah, sah, you ask each thing, each thing; if you fully understand just one thing, it will do fully well. The path of single-heartedness with God may seem a bit difficult. It is not difficult at all. I have not yet explained the path of single-heartedness with God to you. Tenri-O-no-Mikoto is the truth of sincerity revealed since fifty years ago. The basis of Tenri-O-no-Mikoto, here at this one place, is the single-heartedness with which mankind, who did not exist, was created. The origin of this teaching is fifty years past. Understand the truth of the origin. She was not a well-known person. She was just an ordinary person on a farm, a woman who knew nothing. She was no one special. But understand well the truth that it was She who taught the ultimate teaching. She never went anywhere to see things, never learned anything in particular. I entered the body of this woman and spread truth. Understand this well. Teach the members of your family. The human body is a thing lent, a thing borrowed. Each way you have used your mind is reflected in this world. You have been born and reborn into this world many times. Each way you have used your mind is shown. When you have the thought, “What a situation is his,” you should settle your mind with tanno. Everything is reflected in this world. However large your treasure, of what value is it if you suffer from illness? There may be no greater misery. Free and unlimited blessings depend on your mind. Carry this truth with you. There will be a day when blessings will come quickly to your family and to everyone. If you believe this to be true, then come seeking to Me."

"April 16, 1888 Parents become children, and children become parents. The name is to be mentioned. Unless the name is mentioned once, you might not understand. Sah, sah, she has been reborn."

"July 29, 1888 The world is a mirror. Everything is a thing borrowed. The mind is yours. The way you have used your mind is reflected in the mirror."

"August 30, 1888 (July 23, lunar calendar), night Sah, sah, I have told you that children up to the age of fifteen are provided for according to the state of their parents’ mind and from the age of fifteen according to the state of their own mind."

"March 31, 1889 (March 1, lunar calendar), 9:30 am On the request for permission to use the Kagura masks and other instruments of the Service at the Koriyama Branch Church: Sah, sah, on your question, listen closely or you will not understand. Upon one place after another do I bestow the one truth for the fulfillment of the path, arranging matters in accord with the world's path for the time being. On your sincere desire which you hold daily, listen carefully. Each of you must settle truth firmly. Your thoughts are that if this place and that place are the same they are one in truth. I grant truth to many places for the path. You think that those who perform the Service are one in truth. However, you must ponder the truth of those who perform the Service at the Jiba. The Jiba is the one place of origin. When people from all places devote themselves to the Jiba, truth will settle. If you understand the truth of those who perform the Service at the Jiba, you will understand that the use of the musical instruments at your church is completely in accord with the truth. Until now you have decorated your altar with the articles for the Service. I shall make truth clear. Among the articles for the Service which I have allowed you to use, there are some representing the creation of man. I direct that these be used only at the Jiba."

"April 17, 1889 (Mar. 18, lunar calendar), 10:35 P.M. If you understand the teachings theoretically but do not understand the truth behind whatever presents itself each day, this will not do, will not do, will not do. I have entertained you with the teachings of the Parent, the teachings of Oyasama. If you understand the teachings theoretically but do not understand the truth behind whatever presents itself each day, there is no knowing when the sluice will begin to crumble or collapse."

"June 18, 1889 You wonder why you get bodily disorders after you have shown so much devotion. It is such thoughts—which you entertain in the course of daily life—that cause the bodily disorders. If true sincerity is established in you, the bodily conditions will clear up quickly."

"November 25, 1889 In the absence of truth, there certainly is no truth. In the absence of the path, there certainly is no path. Attending the lectures one after another, you say, “I am done for another month,” yet that will serve no purpose unless the truth settles in your mind. No matter how many lectures you claim to have attended, you may have no effectiveness depending on whether or not there is truth in your mind. If you complete the order of the lectures, I shall bestow the Sazuke upon you. Nonetheless, the day may come when you will drop it."

"March 17, 1890 (Jan. 27, lunar calendar) Sah, sah, on your request. The granting of the amulet must continue on and on. Since My red kimono will not last forever, your thought is that it would suffice to purchase so many feet and so many inches of cloth which need not be made into kimono, and use that for the amulets. However, I direct that red kimono be made and offered. And you will request that I wear them. This is what you will use for the grant which will never change."

"June 3, 1890, morning To complain that you do not have full use of the body, where no such problem actually exists, is causality. Concerning the things of the world, too, listen and understand without letting any feeling of insufficiency arise in your mind. Settle the truth of joyous acceptance within."

"June 20, 1890 (May 4, lunar calendar) If I say “joyous play,” you imagine going somewhere for enjoyment or to see some sights. What I call joyous play is completely and utterly different from what is seen by the eyes."

"July 7, 1890 The idea that you do not need doctors or medication has never been part of this teaching. What I have been saying is that I will save even those who, despite having seen doctors and taken medicines, have been given up on. Who started the idea that you do not need to see doctors or take medicine? Nobody would complain if those who were considered hopeless by doctors could be saved."

"September 27, 1890 Whatever you see is causality; whatever you hear is causality. Whoever you are with is also causality."

"January 27, 1891, 9:00pm When I began, I thought to lay a complete and perfect path. But the world thinks only of destroying it by whatever means. . . . The path of God [神の道 Kami-no-michi] and the path of those in high places [上の道 kami-no-michi]: these sound the same. But the world’s path is a path of manifestations, whereas God’s path is the path of the heart. In the world’s path, you can do whatever you want and get away with it, so long as no one sees you do it. But in the path of the heart, it all comes to bear on yourself. In the path, therefore, there are two choices: the world’s path and the path of the heart. In the world’s path, you never know what pitfalls lie ahead or where swords await you. And since God’s path is the path of the three-inch span of the heart, your ideas of wanting to follow this path may not be enough to get you through it. Now that I have explained this so fully, any and everything should settle."

"February 20, 1891 Sah, sah, I shall inform you of the truth. The Kanrodai is the one thing which exists at no other place. You must not move it to any other ground."

"March 22, 1891 Husbands and wives are brought face to face with their causality in their daily lives. Listen and grasp well the causality you are shown as you go through life."

"November 15, 1891, 1:00 at night Worrying yourself sick over human social obligations such as the need for deference and restraint is a dust of mind."

"January 14, 1892, night Moderation is truth; moderation is the path. Moderation is the primary truth for the world. Moderation is a broad path."

"February 24, 1892 Whatever is happening is an opportunity for making spiritual growth."

"June 4, 1892, night You say: “I sprinkled the fragrance. I spread the teachings there.” This may be one way of looking at it, but remember that the teachings could only be conveyed because God was waiting there for you to convey them."

"July 13, 1892 You might make daily efforts of dedication. Yet I cannot accept if you say, “Boy, it was hot,” or, “Boy, it was hard work.”"

"August 31, 1892, 9:30pm As for the one matter of the Seki, I borrow his mouth but not his mind. In the Seki, there is not a trace of human thinking."

"November 19, 1892 (Oct. 1, lunar calendar), 4:00am However daring, heroic, and strong you might be, . . . try using the mind to push, hit, fight, and touch. No matter how strong you may be, you will get nowhere unless you understand the truth that the body is a borrowed thing. I shall guide you along a little, but don’t be surprised when you find yourself in desperate straits."

"January 13, 1893, 2:45 at night During My physical presence, I entrusted someone with each and every matter. This is shown with the tip of My writing brush. It is also shown in the truth of the Twelve Songs. . . . I have said that there is no need for reservation or hesitation. I entrusted the one truth to someone whose body enabled the Twelve Songs to be settled. Who do you think is the person I am relying on? I have entered the one person whom I have chosen."

"January 11, 1894, 11:20pm Whatever kind of day comes to pass, remember that this is the place where the world’s people take it upon themselves to assemble. It is the Home of the Parent, I tell you."

"May 31, 1894 Listen and understand this truth called causality. Even if you try to cause something to happen, it may not happen. Even if you try not to let something happen, it may happen. Such is the truth of causality, I say."

"September 24, 1894 It is causality that causes your wish to be fulfilled or unfulfilled. Your wish, however strong it may be, will never be fulfilled if your causality does not allow it, and, on the other hand, some things which you have not wished at all may come to you due to your causality."

"December 12, 1894, 2:30 at night When you are in a warm place, you feel warm. When you are in a cold place, you feel cold. Instead of understanding this truth of “warm and cold,” you let your own mind’s truths work—this is the basis of the disorders of the body. From this, try to understand. Only because there is warmth and moisture are you able to think your thoughts and have your own expectations in the first place."

"May 22, 1895, morning You say that the relationship between a husband and wife has ended. Even if the marital relationship no longer exists, help them form a brother-sister relationship."

"May 28, 1895 The intention to make a child suffer or cause it hardships cannot be found in the heart of any parent. What you are experiencing as suffering comes solely from My love for you. The physical disorder you are experiencing is a manifestation of My love for you."

"August 3, 1895, night What you are today is only possible because of the hardships and difficulties your parents endured. Your present path is possible only because they repeatedly devoted their efforts and accumulated layer upon layer of effectiveness."

"February 4, 1896 You say that I am living, everliving. Because I am living, there are workings day after day. Because of these workings, there is this One Path. Though it may be difficult to fathom the truth that I am everliving, try to understand it from the things that are reflected in the world day after day."

"April 4, 1896, 1:00 at night Repentance in thought is not enough. To put it into action is truly to repent."

"May 1, 1896 Saving those who are considered hopeless by doctors and are left to die is God’s salvation."

"August 22, 1896 Truth refers to the truth of origin. The truth of origin is the truth God teaches."

"January 29, 1897, supp. vol. You have made great efforts for the path over the course of many years, but you fall into error because you think in terms of a single lifetime. The efforts you have made will last for endless generations. It is not as if your efforts were wasted."

"June 5, 1897, night Life is good today and will be so tomorrow. Play joyously without forming any thoughts or words in your mind."

"July 14, 1897 Transforming a dissatisfying situation into the object of joyous acceptance—first settling what is hard to settle—is true sincerity, I say. It is also repentance for causality from previous lives, I say."

"December 11, 1897 There is God-guided joy and self-serving joy. You cannot follow through with self-serving joy, even if you try to. Only when your joy brings joy to others, can it be called true joy. If you enjoy yourselves while causing others to suffer, this cannot be called true joy."

"March 25, 1898 The matter at hand concerns a path for women. Though each of you women is on a woman’s path, the path for women that I speak of makes no distinction between men and women. You do not know what this path is. So listen carefully and understand well. Through this talk, I am providing you with a basis for discussions among yourselves. Listen well and understand. Many are those within. The many within are working day after day. But there must be the one truth within. Depending on the length you have followed the path, some are called “old” and others “new.” With both the “new” and the “old,” there is every sort of truth. With the “old,” there are also truths accumulated over the years. Women, begin the Women’s Association now. This is not begun by the thoughts of human beings. It is God who has you begin it."

"March 26, 1898 This path teaches everything from previous lives to the present life and even to rebirths. This being so, I speak of the Jiba from which everything originated in the beginning. All of you must settle it in your mind. But it will not do to say that it is good enough for you to settle it in your own mind alone. . . . There is no distinction between men and women. If you go along the path with a purified mind, there would be no distinction between men and women. But do not think they are all to do the same thing. I shall explain through the metaphor of instruments. Some instruments are for rough work, some are for fine work, and some are for the sort of work in between. It will not do, not to understand this principle. Listen and understand this point well. . . . I make no distinction between men and women. . . . Is it a man or woman who opened this path? You can understand everything if you look at it from this perspective. . . . If you members of the Women’s Association would grasp what is taught in the path of single-hearted salvation that Oyasama followed, a feeling for what your association ought to do would arise in your minds."

"June 12, 1898 God dislikes dust. You must sweep, you must sweep it completely away. If a human mind notices a little cloudiness in you, it is almost as if you were completely pervaded by cloudiness."

"September 30, 1898, 2:00am You talk about causality, causality, but there is positive causality as well as negative causality."

"November 4, 1898 One cannot open a path while living in luxury. Understand well. Put on your workshoes, make untiring efforts of dedication, and thus build virtue earnestly. Only then will your work be effective."

"December 30, 1898, 9:00am When you go home after receiving the Sazuke, you are taking a souvenir for home, a treasure for home, whose value is immeasurable."

"January 12, 1899, supp. vol. Each of you should dedicate yourself to serving the world and the path without entertaining such thoughts as “This person might say this” and “That person might say that.” The truth of your decisiveness will endure for a lifetime and for eternity. This one truth I have now told you."

"May 11, 1899 No longer will it do to think in terms of a single lifetime. If you think of this lifetime alone, you will feel disheartened. You will end up wondering, “What in the world have I been doing?” To lay a path in places where there was no path before and to settle the truth in each place is not easy. But I have fully accepted what you have done thus far. Sah! Think about the truth of birth and rebirth: the truth of eternity cannot be passed on easily. If you think in terms of a single lifetime, you will feel disheartened. The truth of eternity: that is the extraordinary truth."
