"Plants require at least 16 s for normal growth and for completion of their life cycle. Those used in the largest amounts, , and oxygen, are non-mineral elements supplied by air and water. The other 13 elements are taken up by plants only in mineral form from the soil or must be added as s. Plants need relatively large amounts of , , and . These nutrients are referred to as primary nutrients, and are the ones most frequently supplied to plants in fertilizers. The three secondary elements, , , and , are required in smaller amounts than the primary nutrients. Calcium and magnesium are usually supplied with liming materials, and sulfur with fertilizer materials. Contaminants in also supply 10 to 20 pounds of nitrogen and sulfur per acre each year, depending on local air quality. The micronutrients consist of seven essential elements: , , , iron, , , and . These elements occur in very small amounts in both soils and plants, but their role is equally as important as the primary or secondary nutrients. A deficiency of one or more of the micronutrients can lead to severe depression in growth, yield, and crop quality. Some soils do not contain sufficient amounts of these nutrients to meet the plant's requirements for rapid growth and good production. In such cases, supplemental micronutrient applications in the form of commercial fertilizers or must be made."
"Many tropical soils are poor in inorganic nutrients and rely on the recycling of nutrients from soil organic matter to maintain fertility. In undisturbed such nutrients are recycled via the ... ; , meanwhile, depends on the mineralization of organic nutrients from the plant remains ... or on (short-lived) inputs from ash ... . This dependence on organic nutrients in tropical soils has the result that tests of soil quality which only give isolated measures of inorganic nutrient status are unreliable ... , and that the effects of fertilization can be inconsistent because of leaching or fixation of inorganic nutrients. Here we attempt to quantify the role of organic matter in sustaining the fertility of soils from three different climate zones. We estimate rates of from ecological measurements and , and determine its relation to the and nutrient budgets. We find that agriculture without supplementary fertilization was economical for 65 years on temperate and for six years in a tropical semi-arid . An extremely nutrient-poor Amazonian soil showed no potential for agriculture beyond the three-year lifespan of the forest litter mat, once biological nutrient cycles were interrupted by slash-burning. These observations suggest that quantification of organic-matter cycling may provide an important guide to the agricultural potential of soils."
"Now it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, that he went down with an ephod in his hand. [...] When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”"
"Attention is again called to the fact that the is the original source of 98½% per cent of the materials found in the green plant; the carbohydrates, fats and being composed of elements supplied in the form of water and gas. These substances are furnished free of cost in humid climates, the supply being practically beyond control, and their use by the plant results in no impoverishment of the land. The subject of practical importance to the farmer is the supply of the other 1½% per cent of the plant, consisting of nitrogen and the ash elements which are derived directly from the solid particles of the soil. It has been shown that seven of these elements are essential to plant growth. Experience has proved that only three of these elements (i.e. , and ) are likely to become exhausted, or, in other words, that nothing is gained by adding to the soil any of the other elements of . This is due to the fact that the plant uses nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash in rather larger quantities than the other elements, and that they exist in smaller quantities in the ground, and not because they are any more essential to vegetation. Occasionally soils are found that are actually deficient in , but in most cases lime is present in sufficient abundance for the growth of the plant."

There is the indifference of some Europeans who do not set a good example; there is the influence of their pagan relatives, perhaps dragging them back; there is hostility and attempts at perversion on the part of the sects. The pagan past appeals to them; the beauty of a thoroughly Christian society is as yet unknown to them. Yet, aided by the grace of God, they profess Jesus Christ openly before men. The Holy Ghost is given them to help and strengthen them in this struggle, which is changing the face of Africa, as Europe was changed."
"When they envied Moses in the camp, / And Aaron the saint of the Lord, / The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan, / And covered the faction of Abiram. / A fire was kindled in their company; / The flame burned up the wicked."
"Know today that I do not speak with your children, who have not known and who have not seen the chastening of the Lord your God, His greatness and His mighty hand and His outstretched arm— [...] and what He did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, their households, their tents, and all the substance that was [a]in their possession, in the midst of all Israel."
"Now Korah son of Izhar son of Kohath son of Levi, along with Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth son[a] of Reuben, took two hundred fifty Israelite men, leaders of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men, and they confronted Moses. They assembled against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! All the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. So why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”"
"Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, but they said, “We will not come! Is it too little that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also lord it over us? It is clear you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Would you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come!”"
"So Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram; the elders of Israel followed him. He spoke to the congregation, saying, “Turn away from the tents of these wicked men and touch nothing of theirs, or you will be swept away for all their sins.” So they got away from the dwellings of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the entrances of their tents, together with their wives, their children, and their little ones. [...] Moses said: [...] But if the Lord creates something new and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up, with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the Lord.” As soon as he finished speaking all these words, the ground under them was split apart."

Far be it from me, then, to give priority to my own life in any time of oppression, for I am not of any greater worth than my brothers. Rather, I will avenge my nation and the sanctuary and your wives and children, for all the nations have united to destroy us because of their hatred for us.”"

Assembling the people, he exhorted them [...]These words rekindled the spirit of the people and they replied by shouting, “You are our leader in place of Judas and your brother Jonathan. Fight our battles, and we will do whatever you tell us.”"
"Then Jonathan said to those with him, “Let us get up now and fight for our lives, for today things have changed considerably from the way they used to be. In front of us the battle awaits; behind us are the waters of the Jordan on one side and marshland and thickets on the other. There is no way out. Cry out to Heaven that you may be saved from our enemies.”"
"Then all the friends of Judas assembled and said to Jonathan, “Since the death of your brother Judas there has been no one like him to lead us against our enemies and Bacchides, as well as against those of our own nation who are hostile to us. Therefore, today we have chosen you to take his place as our ruler and our leader, and to fight our battle.” Thereupon Jonathan accepted the leadership in the place of his brother Judas."
"King Alexander was informed of all the proposals made by Demetrius to Jonathan, and he was also told of the battles that Jonathan and his brothers had fought, of the heroic deeds that they had accomplished, and of the hardships that they had endured. "Jonathan sent his brother to act as leader of the multitude and to ask the Nabateans, with whom he was friendly, for permission to store with them the great quantity of baggage that they had brought with them. 36 However, the sons of Jambri made a sortie from Medeba, captured John, and carried off the baggage Some time afterward the news was reported to Jonathan and his brother Simon: “The sons of Jambri are celebrating a great wedding, [...] Remembering how their brother John had been slain, they went up and hid themselves under the cover of a mountain. As they kept watch, they observed a tumultuous procession come into sight carrying a great amount of baggage. [...] The Jews sprang on them from their place of ambush and began to slay them. [...] Having thereby gained revenge for the blood of their brother, the Jews returned to the marshes of the Jordan."

"However, when Uzziah continued to grow ever stronger, he also was afflicted with pride, and that led to his destruction. For he proved unfaithful to the Lord his God by entering the temple of the Lord to make an offering on the altar of incense. 17 Then the priest Azariah and eighty priests of the Lord who were courageous men followed him. The priests confronted King Uzziah and said to him: “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who are consecrated to make offerings. Leave the sanctuary, for you have done wrong, and you will no longer share in the glory that comes from the Lord God.” Uzziah had a censer in his hand to burn the incense, but while he showed his intense anger to the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead, in the presence of the priests in the house of the Lord, by the altar of incense. When the chief priest, Azariah, and all the other priests looked at Uzziah carefully and saw that his forehead was leprous, they quickly removed him from the temple; and he himself was equally anxious to leave because the Lord had afflicted him."

- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
