Among other interesting cases Euler developed e as a continued fraction, thus: e = 2 + \cfrac{1}{1 + \cfrac{1}{2 + \cfrac{1}{1 + \cfrac{1}{4 + \cfrac{1}{1+...}}}}} Of the later contributors to the theory, special mention should be made of Lagrange (1767) and Galois."
