According to Billboard, the film’s soundtrack, titled Awesome Mix Vol. 1, is the first soundtrack to claim the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts without featuring a single new, previously unreleased track. Awesome Mix Vol. 1 consists of classic ‘60s and ‘70s pop tunes, including cuts from the Jackson 5 and the Runaways. The soundtrack plays a central role in the film’s plot as well, with the collection of tunes constituting a mix given to main character Peter Quill by his late mother."
