"Far away I've travelled To stand once more alone. And hear my memories echo Through these hills that I call home. As a child I roamed this valley, I watched the seasons come and go. I spent many hours dreaming On these hills that I call home."
"And you know the sun's settin' fast And just like they say nothing good ever lasts. Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye but hold on to your lover. 'Cause your heart's bound to die. Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town. Can't you see the sun's settin' down on our town, on our town? Goodnight."
"Everybody's wonderin' what and where they all came from. Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go When the whole thing's done. But no one knows for certain And so it's all the same to me. I think I'll just let the mystery be."
"Sweet is the melody, so hard to come by, It's so hard to make every note bend just right. You lay down the hours and leave not one trace But a tune for the dancing is there in it's place."
"Some say once gone you're gone forever And some say you're going to come back. Some say you rest in the arms of the Saviour If in sinful ways you lack. Some say that they're coming back in a garden, Bunch of carrots and little sweet peas. I think I'll just let the mystery be."
"In 1998, I had a talk with a friend that was vegetarian, and he just made me think … Like, just because someone else can kill an animal for you and cut it up and do all the disgusting dirty work, all I have to do is walk into McDonald’s and order it and then I can eat it. … I still eat the same kinds of things I used to but without meat. So I think that if you love animals and deep down are sort of just over [eating them] or think it’s wrong and not the right thing to do, then just stop doing it. … Videos are also very effective—my friend saw a video about factory farming and stopped eating meat immediately afterward. Seeing is believing. Sometimes people don’t want to think about stuff like that or don’t care to think about stuff like that until it’s really just thrown in their face."
"That song [5-3-10-4 from '] really is about how I saw things. I wrote that song when I was still doing the bike messenger grind and you know being down by the stockyards where they would take all the animals and slaughter them; there were a bunch of slaughterhouses down there and there were cows and pigs being frozen and chunks of meat were hanging in trucks, it was such a pinnacle time in my life. … I haven’t eaten meat for something like 17 years. I remember I was eating meat one day and my cat was looking up at me and I thought, ‘Man I wouldn’t eat my cat. What difference would it make if it was a little cat or a cow?’ and it occurred to me that we are all connected and I didn’t want to contribute to that. All the time people around me are eating meat but that is their thing, it is not until they ask that I inform them that I am a vegetarian and it is a big part of who I am."
"I think it's something that people don't think about. It's hot outside—your car is like a fishbowl. So the light comes in, and it gets trapped, and it gets really hot in there really quickly. If you see a dog in a hot car, and you think that he's in danger or that he's been there for a while, it's good to speak up... go into whatever businesses it's parked outside of, and just raise awareness about it."
"I’ve cut way back on animal products (especially dairy), and I try to only eat organic. Because of Alicia Silverstone], I’m way more conscious of what I put in my mouth and also about how my dollar is spent. Her book The Kind Diet was a real eye-opener for me. … [In the film Vamps] Alicia and I play vampires who abstain from human blood. So we were very kind in that we weren’t killing people and drinking their blood! … All the people in my life joke that I’m vampire in real life. Not because I drink blood or anything but because I prefer to stay indoors with the blinds closed. I’m not really a SUN person. I come out of my coffin (bedroom) when the sun goes down."
