"Solidarität, das ist eine Droge, die high macht, andererseits auch abhängig."
"Wenn's der Wahrheitsfindung dient!"
"Now, then. Landon Donovan for the United States. Twisting, turning. Can he find the right ball? Cesar hit it away; it's played back in by Bocanegra. Oh, and nearly Altidore getting under of it. A really good clearance by Jokić; just when it looked as if Jozy Altidore might be in. They really have to put Slovenia under pressure. If they can get one goal, I think, John. You just wonder, whether then Slovenia might start to look a little bit shaky and start to wonder. He's got in, behind. Donovan, Donovan goes alone and scores! Oh, what a goal! Landon Donovan, tremendous strike for the United States! It looked impossible, but Donovan did it! And the USA are back in business!"
"Certainly rolling the dice now. Bob Bradley as he had to, really. Here's his son, Michael Bradley. Decent effort. Donovan, the man whose goal has given the United States at least hope. Altidore to lay it down, Bradley! Bradley, has done it! USA are level! The comeback kings, strike again! Michael Bradley, for the USA! What a moment! "Thank you son", says Bob Bradley. And I think the whole of the United States of America, says "thank you" too to Michael Bradley."
"I don't know what everybody back home is like watching this, but I'm very tense. I'll tell you that."
"Oh, talk about lightning striking twice. Another goal scrubbed out for the United States."
"Clint Dempsey off the post and again, and he's missed the rebound! Absolute agony for the USA!"
"It just takes one moment to make the difference here for the USA of staying in this competition or leaving it."
"Will the goal never come?"
"Four minutes of added time. That might lift the United States, that's time enough. Dreadfully negative, really. From the Algerians, they're looking for things on the break. I suspect they'll get a chance or two, on the break. Ghezzal, that's a good ball he's found there to Guedioura who plays it deep. Saïfi, with a header. Howard, gratefully claims it. Distribution, brilliant. Landon Donovan. Oh, are things on here for the USA? Can they do it here? Cross, and Dempsey is denied again, and Donovan has scored! Oh, can you believe this? Go, go, USA! Certainly through! Oh, it's incredible! You could not write a script like this!"
"Played in, and it comes out into Landon Donovan, who strikes again. What a golden goal for the USA, if you're just joining us? There it is, the moment. Deep, deep into the match! To give the USA surely, a place in the last sixteen. It is breathtakingly exciting!"
"It is over! The USA have made it, in a Hollywood-style finish!"
"Now, van Bronckhorst with pace! Oh, it is an absolute firecracker from Giovanni van Bronckhorst! One, nil! Holland!"
"It's a really good ball, it's Tshabalala! Goal, Bafana Bafana! Goal for South Africa, goal for all Africa! Jabulela, rejoice! Bafana Bafana have popped the first cork of their day of days! Siph Tshabalala!"
"You couldn't look away. Not even for a second. You were locked in, panicked. Scared stiff. Agony and angst at levels you never knew you had. It was near physical pain. But, in a blink? It was truly agony, to ecstasy."
"Pick yourself up and dust yourself off and back in the saddle You're on the front line Everyone's watching You know it's serious we're getting closer, this isn't over"
"For us, it's been about a common goal. Not an automatic pass for a pack of superstars, and while our team is the U.S.? Today, you can call them "us". Because they've truly taken America along for the ride."
"Oh! What an error! What an awful moment for Rob Green and for England!"
"Oh, and Rob Green's let it in! It's a howler!"
"As for Marjah, its mention at all in the same breath as the American Revolution or the Civil War is truly grotesque. The little farming communities that PR machine lyingly described as a small city swarming with Taliban fighters was nothing but a staged and carefully managed battle set, designed to make Americans forget that the US was (and is) bogged down in an unwinnable war of conquest and occupation in Afghanistan. The few American soldiers and Marines who died there died for the sake of White Hours and Pentagon propaganda, not for the sake of defending Americans’ vaunted freedoms. The set has now been torn down, the klieg lights have been turned off, and “Marjah” has reverted to Taliban territory again."
"Thereafter, on 8th February we had a very serious input. I placed it before the Director (IS). He personally drafted an advisory communication to three States which had Chabad Houses (place of worship and seminary for Jewish worshippers). The advisory communication was signed by the concerned Joint Secretary and issued. There was imminent threat of fidayeen attacks to these places and their vicinity. According to information available with the Home Ministry, Chabad Houses were located in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Kochi. Hence the States of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala were sensitised on 8th February 2010. The input shared by the Home Ministry proved right. On 13th February 2010, there was a bomb blast in a German Bakery very close to the Chabad House in Pune. As many as 67 people died and many were injured. This was a blast which could have been avoided. It appears that the Central alert was not taken seriously by the State government and even the Commissioner of Police, Pune, did not receive the input from the government of Maharashtra... Or was it a deliberate policy not to share the input? I ask this question because of certain information on funds used for terror attack..."
"Like all of you, and the world out there, I have suffered a huge sense of frustration at not being able to stop the loss. (Tony Hayward)"
"The Gulf disaster is worse than a terrible oil leak. It is the product of a failed energy policy that looked at profits before people and environment. (Robert Redford), nrdc.org"
"Divine intervention is needed to solve the disaster in the gulf, as man's efforts have been futile. Politicians should call for a day of prayer for a miracle to happen. (Sarah Palin)"
"Williams was the chief electronics technician for ... Managing electronics on the Deepwater Horizon had inured Williams to emergency alarms. s had been running high enough to prohibit any “hot” work such as welding or wiring that could cause sparks. Normally, the alarm system would have gone off with gas levels as high as they were. However, the alarms had been disabled in order to prevent false alarms from waking people in the middle of the night. But the emergency announcement that came over the on the night of April 20 was clearly no false alarm. Moments after the announcement, Williams was jolted by a nearby thud and a hissing sound, followed by the revving of one of the rig’s engines. Before he knew it, there were two explosions forcing him and other crew members to abandon ship by jumping into the partially flaming ocean. ... Of the 126 workers on board the Deepwater Horizon, 17 were injured, including Williams, and 11 were killed. The rig burned for 36 hours, combusting the 700,000 gallons of oil that were on board, leaving a trail of smoke over 30 miles long. The Deepwater Horizon sank on April 22, taking with it the top pipe of the well and parts of the system that were supposed to prevent s from occurring."
"Current estimates suggest that the Deepwater Horizon (DH) resulted in the release of approximately 4.4 million s ± 20% (7.0 × 105 m3) into the northern over a 3-month period during the summer of 2010 (Crone and Tolstoy 2010). The leak was a result of a deepwater rig explosion on 20 April 2010 due to methane gas release after drilling an . An attempt to activate a safety feature to prevent a blowout failed. After burning for 36 hr, the entire platform sank to the seafloor. Because of concerns over seafood safety, on 2 May 2010, the (NOAA) initiated closures of federal waters to commercial and recreational fishing; Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and eventually Florida subsequently instituted fisheries closures in state waters, in coordination with the (FDA) ... By 21 June, closures covered approximately 37% of the Gulf of Mexico (225,290 km2), extending east from , Louisiana, to (NOAA 2010b). The well was capped on 15 July, and on 19 September, relief wells were completed that permanently disabled the well."
"The Deepwater Horizon constituted an ecosystem-level injury in the northern . Much oil spread at 1100–1300 m depth, contaminating and affecting deepwater habitats. Factors such as oil-biodegradation, s and response measures (dispersants, burning) reduced coastal oiling. Still, > 2100 of shoreline and many coastal habitats were affected. Research demonstrates that oiling caused a wide range of biological effects, although worst-case impact scenarios did not materialize. s in individual organisms were more informative about oiling stress than population and community indices. es and seabird populations were hard hit, but were also quite resilient to oiling effects. Monitoring demonstrated little contamination of seafood."
"The Deepwater Horizon was the largest, longest-lasting, and deepest oil accident to date in US waters. As and jetted from release points at 1,500-m depth in the northern , entrainment of the surrounding into a buoyant plume, rich in soluble s and dispersed microdroplets of oil, created a deep (1,000-m) intrusion layer. Larger droplets of liquid oil rose to the surface, forming a slick of mostly insoluble, hydrocarbon-type compounds. A variety of physical, chemical, and biological mechanisms helped to transform, remove, and redisperse the oil and gas that was released. removed up to 60% of the oil in the intrusion layer but was less efficient in the surface slick, due to nutrient limitation. Photochemical processes altered up to 50% (by mass) of the floating oil. The surface oil expression changed daily due to wind and currents, whereas the intrusion layer flowed southwestward. A portion of the weathered surface oil stranded along shorelines. Oil from both surface and intrusion layers were deposited onto the via sinking marine oil snow. The biodegradation rates of stranded or sedimented oil were low, with resuspension and redistribution transiently increasing biodegradation. The subsequent research efforts increased our understanding of the fate of spilled oil immensely, with novel insights focusing on the importance of , the driving biodegradation, and the formation of marine oil snow that transports oil to the seafloor."
