"There is vocatio intentionalis, an intentional calling, when parents in their intention and purpose dedicate their children to this service of God, the ministry, even in their cradle. And this is a good and holy intention, because though it bind not in the nature of a vow, yet it makes them all the way more careful, to give them such an education, as may fit them for that profession. And then there is vocatio virtualis, when having assented to that purpose of my parents, I receive that public seal, the imposition of hands, in the church of God: but it is vocatio radicalis, the calling that is the root and foundation of all, that we have this light shining in our hearts, the testimony of God's Spirit to our spirit, that we have this calling from above."
