"This the place where we are all invited to stand at the beginning of Lent to take in the meaning of this movement from the river to the desert, and to be caught in it ourselves. Lent is the season for the Spirit of truth, who drove Jesus into the wilderness to initiate him into the truth that sets free. Mark’s hard word “drove” was softened by Mathew and Luke to the milder expression “led”."
