She was named as his daughter, Bhagirathi. But on the way she was about to submerge the sacrifleial ground of Jahuu who was performing a sacrifice, and who, in order to save it, drank her away outrigiit to the astonishment of all. But, propitiated by Bhagiratha, Jahnu let the river out from his ears; and by thus issuing out from him she was named as his daughter, Jahnavi."
