"Buddha became an object of adoration and also meditation. The term “buddhanusmriti” in early Buddhists scriptures had four meanings: (1)meditation on the virtues of Buddha; (2) hearing the name of Buddha; (3) repetition of the name of Budddha; and (4) meditation in the figure of Buddha."
