"However, women remain underrepresented compared to men, particularly in decision-making positions. We are working hard to correct this situation. Madagascar has been a State party to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women since 1989. The ratification of the Maputo Protocol, the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, remains a progressive legal instrument that grants many rights to African women and girls. Given our religious and Christian culture, however, we are faced with the problem posed by its Article 14."
