Hastings Ismay
Hastings Lionel "Pug" Ismay (21 June 1887 β 17 December 1965) was a British soldier and diplomat, remembered primarily for his role as Winston Churchill's chief military assistant during the Second World War and his service as the first Secretary General of NATO from 1952 to 1957. He also helped oversee the partition of India as Lord Mountbatten of Burma's chief of staff.
