After giving her son his Birthday gift, which is revealed in the end to be another mix tape, "Awesome Mix Vol. 2", she says these to Peter before she succumbs to the cancer and dies. It was revealed in the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that Peter's father Ego gave Meredith a cancerous tumor.
