"I am grateful for the [financial] assistance I received last year [1955] through the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation. Some are less lyrical, evincing aggression or tension.. .Others suggest spaciousness or vast space, again without using illusionistic devices or the egotistical implication of infinitely extensible surface."
