Upon taking office, Biskupski became Salt Lake City's 35th mayor, the city's first openly gay mayor, and the second mayor (after Deedee Corradini) who was a woman. She is also a former member of the Utah House of Representatives, representing the 30th District in Salt Lake County from 1999 to 2011.
