"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant socio-economic impact. In terms of the economy there has been a decline in state tax revenue, budget deficit and public services. Rising poverty means deeper vulnerabilities and social inequalities. Unfortunately, women pay a higher price. Poverty is a key issue because it deeply affects, especially women in rural areas. Many women rely on the often-unstable earnings of their spouses. Curfews, lockdowns and borders closures disrupted incoming-generating activities, causing dramatic economic vulnerability for women – the pandemic depleted household economies."
"That communication has been very efficient in preventing COVID-19 infections and is [one of the] most effective ways to end it. These measures must continue and be enhanced to improve women’s health and wellbeing as well that of their families."
"Supporting the revival of women’s economic activities not only strengthens their resilience but also enables them to gain financial independence. It is crucial to continue providing this assistance."
"Through my training and life as a doctor, I am aware of the burden borne by women with fistula. These women are rejected by their husbands, abandoned by their loved ones, humiliated, and excluded from society. They endure excruciating psychological suffering. My goal is to ensure that these women receive care, are surrounded by all the psychological and social support they need, regain their dignity, and can lead a healthy life like all other women. They do not deserve the stigma they face, and their rights to health and decent social treatment must be guaranteed."
"You know, there is hope if the will exists. Why not? It's all a matter of agreements and principles, and all that's needed is for French-speaking countries to be convinced of this and make a firm commitment through the creation of integration frameworks and synergistic partnerships."
"Regional health promotion is accessible, as all the texts, frameworks, and conventions for the promotion and protection of women exist. There remains significant work to be done, requiring commitment and goodwill from our states, while, of course, taking into account the specificities of each country. Regional and subregional spaces can serve as tools for defining and implementing joint health promotion programs for women and girls."
"Above all, it was important to make women understand that they were stakeholders in this process and that it would have no value without their participation. We placed great emphasis on electoral participation, with this motto: one woman, one vote."
"I set the bar very high, because failure would have negative repercussions for all women. Likewise, if I succeed, it will have positive repercussions for women. This is my personal and modest contribution to my Nigerien sisters."

"I've made a lot of sacrifices."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
