"Pwede naman ako tawagan ni Ate at tanongin privately kung meron silang hindi maintindihan. Pero tila hindi kalinawagan ang gusto ng mga tao sa paligid niya pero ang pagbalik ng kadiliman. (My sister could have just called me and asked privately if there was something they didnât understand. But it seems the people around her arenât seeking clarity â they want to bring back the darkness.)"
"Interviewer: Are you looking for God? Gianotti: No. I donât think physics will ever be able to answer that question. Science and religion are separate disciplines, though not mutually exclusive. You can be a physicist and have faith, or you may not. Itâs best for God and science to keep a healthy distance. Interviewer: But youâve called the Higgs bison "the God particle". Gianotti: No scientist has ever dared to describe it in such terms. We owe this to the publisher of the book written by Nobel laureate Leon Lederman. He wanted to cloak the work in a literary veil that would certainly make an impact. Lederman had suggested another title, *The Damned Particle*, because it had driven us to despair; we had been searching for it for decades. It is undoubtedly a special particle, but to liken it to God is nonsense."
"Si, io credo in Dio. Non ci sono contraddizioni tra scienza e fede, lâimportante è lasciare i due piani separati: essere credenti o non credenti, non è la fisica che ci darĂ una risposta. La scienza si basa sulla dimostrazione sperimentale e la religione si basa su principi completamente opposti, cioè sulla fede, tanto piĂš benemerito chi crede senza aver visto."
"The first thing I tell my new clients is: âIt happened to you; it's a misfortune. Just think of it as if you'd been diagnosed with cancer.â I wasn't just wondering if Andreotti would be acquitted. I was wondering if he'd have time to read all the documents, if he'd even make it alive to the Court of Cassation."
"You come out of a criminal trial with at least a nervous tic."

"The part of the Supreme Courtâs ruling regarding the statute of limitations is different. The Court of Appealsâ ruling stated, âBefore 1980, there were ties to the Mafia; after that, there were not.â The Supreme Courtâs rulingâwhich is the final instance, and which no one wants to examineâstates that, regarding the period prior to 1980, there are two alternative truths: the possibility that he (Giulio Andreotti) either had ties to the Mafia or did not. There is a situation of doubt, but it makes no sense to go back and determine which of the two alternative truths applies, because the statute of limitations has expired. So it remains a matter of doubt. Quite different from the appellate ruling."
"Filippo Carobbioâs defense strategy is clear: to downplay his crime as a mere transgression, thereby avoiding a dangerous criminal conspiracy charge. This is why Carobbio accuses Conte; this is why he tries to downplay his own role in the soccer betting scandal. For the Disciplinary Commission, Carobbio is a witness of absolute credibility; Carobbio is divine, one and triuneâa mythologization that struck me but is by no means accidental, because the judges used the famous âping-pongâ cross-examination technique on him."
"Plea bargaining is becoming like honey for false turncoats. To get a reduced sentence. They rejected it for Conte, and for a man like him, itâs better that way. Better a century-long ban."
"Sharing things like thatâagain, disinformation, fake newsâshould not be coming from government officials. It is concerning and erodes trust even more when disinformation and fake news come from high-ranking officials themselves. So now that theyâve done it and thereâs nothing we can do about it, the least they can do is acknowledge that the video they shared is false and not authentic."
"PAO lawyers have been working day and night, even our pregnant lawyers, those with diabetes, they go to police stations, to courts to assist our indigent clients. It is unfair to generalize our PAO lawyers. Please spare PAO from politics."

For them, ito lang âyong handa ko, tapos whatever extra money, siguro pang-regalo na or whatever. (Not everybody wants to celebrate ostentatiously or excessively. Others only have a set budget for this. For them, they only have this amount allocated for food, while the rest goes to gifts or whatever.)"

"It seems so odd to me now, how one can be so unsettled by the improbable. When we know that our entire existence is founded on freak occurrences and improbable coincidences. That we wouldnât be here at all if it werenât for these curious twists of fate."
"I never talk enough about how painful it was. But I have admitted this in concert, only when it's live and intimate, that it was really... Maybe the second most painful time in my life, second after losing my mom."
"At the post office in the rue Pareillet I felt compelled to check the date on the screen of the stamp-vending machine, as if seeking a loophole in the host of signs that the day was repeating itself. "Often, we would simply come to the conclusion that you cannot know everything, that you have to accept some displacement in life, that you have to expect inconsistencies, and that was what we encountered: patterns and inconsistencies, two worlds trying to merge."

"MÄori women are said not to carve, and Iâve always pushed the boundaries, so in terms of using media and photographic tools or film or video itâs my way of being able to carve. So rather than photographs I think of them as ancestral figures."
"Mahuika (the goddess of fire) sits on a stool. Sheâs talked about as being part of the underworld⌠Iâve kind of contemporised what this underworld is⌠My Mahuika sits on a Marcel Breuer chair...I wanted to update my version of my MÄori goddess by presenting her in this century⌠thinking about what does she look like, what does she mean and what does she say?"
"Marakihau is one of my favourite works because it effectively replicates carving traditions. Marakihau is a word specific only to carving, it is a taniwha; water monsters that usually relate to specific locales inland or at sea. Taniwha are guardians of a place, so they can be both terrifying and good. They were said to inhabit dangerous places as a way to warn people of potential danger⌠My Marakihau is a composite of oceanic stuff; she has kelp dreadlocks and fishy bits. I styled this on the 1980s Soul II Soul Club Classics album cover with flying dreads, and my taniwha holds a bullâs horn like a big smoking chalice."

Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
