"Pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it—that is my world view."
"The climate is changing, but the question is, is it being caused by natural cycles over the span of the Earth’s history? Or is it changing because we drive SUVs? I don’t believe in the latter. I don’t think that’s the primary driver."
"Homosexual relationships are inherently unnatural and, the studies clearly show, are ultimately harmful and costly for everyone. Society cannot give its stamp of approval to such a dangerous lifestyle. If we change marriage for this tiny, modern minority, we will have to do it for every deviant group. Polygamists, polyamorists, pedophiles, and others will be next in line to claim equal protection. They already are. There will be no legal basis to deny a bisexual the right to marry a partner of each sex, or a person to marry his pet."
"There is no right to abortion in the Constitution."
"Civil rights and human rights are intertwined,"
"But those achievements, great as they are, do not begin to sum up the life and accomplishments of Lindy Boggs."
"She really knew the district better than he did. She knew the growth in the district and the neighborhoods in the district and all that because, by then, he had gone into the leadership and was focusing a lot of his energies on the leadership."
"She’s the only widow I know who is really qualified—damn qualified—to take over."
"a strong and loud and constant voice for life."
"Calling her a humble leader and a faithful friend, the archbishop said Boggs believed in the darkest moments in life, God loved her and led her. She placed her life in the hands of a loving God."
"She was a strong and loud and constant voice for life, calling on the equality of women in the workplace and in the community"
"Her entire life fits into the notion ... of serving others in the image of God."
"The one clear message that came out of all the remembrances of Lindy was not just what she did but how she did it. This was a righteous woman. She was tough. She was smart. She was shrewd. She was persistent, but she was also gracious ... loving and kind, and she was patient."
"She served and did it in a way that dignified every human being that she ever had in her life. There is a lesson there for me and for all of us in how we can remember Lindy and conduct ourselves … in our private and public affairs."
"She was so suave and capable that she could get anybody to do anything simply by being so nice. You knew that she would come back and do as much or more for you sometime."
"Lindy went through life with a special blend of confidence, grace, and an extraordinary capacity to reach out to others. Her charming Southern accent and wide dimpled smile greeted everyone with genuine warmth and kindness. Her striking blue eyes focused intently on the person at hand, never straying in search of more important company. Each conversation inevitably revealed her lively but gentle wit."
"Lindy lived her faith and was guided by this faith in her family, life in Congress and all her political life,"
"Almost all women’s issues are economic issues."
"Women vote their pocketbooks . . . it boils down to that."
"If we met regularly there would be mutual concerns that would be revealed that we may not think of as compelling now."
"We should be number one in the south when it comes to jobs and opportunities, and we are last. I use this analogy: If LSU was last in the SEC, we’d fire everyone from the president of the university down to the poor water boy. It’s time we do the same thing in our state government. We’re going to have a very conservative House and Senate, we need someone in the governor’s seat who can work with them and move our state forward. That’s very simple"
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
