"There were no candidates in the (Penghu's casino legalization) referendum and therefore no candidates to offer transportation allowances to voters."
"Our (Taitung County) economy has long been in a difficult situation due to the county's remote location and inadequate transportation systems, which hinder industrial development and thus lead to an outflow of young adults. Nevertheless, we possess a number of distinguishing features such as a beautiful natural environment, abundant supply of agricultural and fishery products, and cultural diversity due to the presence of seven aboriginal tribes. The challenge lies in how to utilize those resources properly to promote tourism (of Taitung County)."
"We have to take advantage of rebuilding to elevate the (Taitung) city, or we'll have gotten clobbered by (Typhoon) Nepartak for no reason."
"When it comes to health, we (delegation of Taitung County) from a different part of the world (Taiwan) are able to understand a common language."
"Taitung County has the longest coastline in all of Taiwan so there are plenty of waves for the international competitors to enjoy during their visit."
"We won't give up on any opportunity to rescue the victims. More than 90 rescue workers are still working in shifts searching for people who remain unaccounted for. Even if the golden 72 hours are slipping away and there is only a 0.1 percent chance (of saving them), we will continue to search for the five (mainland) Chinese tourists who remain missing."
"The truth is the United States has to this point never recognized that Taiwan is part of China."
"There is no timeline for future political negotiations, but both of us (Taiwan and Mainland China) must develop and accumulate enough friendship and mutual trust."
"If the Kuomintang has the opportunity to rule (Taiwan) again, then we would have met the conditions stipulated by the (Act Governing Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area) law. Assuming talks between the two sides (Taiwan and Mainland China) are successful, a Kuomintang government would be within its rights to sign a cross-strait peace treaty."
"Both sides (Taiwan and Mainland China) are so lovely and so many of their people are behaving like heroes and heroines, and yet Taiwan's former ambition to 'recover the mainland' has become a thing of the past."

"Of course, we are against Taiwan's independence, but we don't think right now is the time to talk about reunification (with Mainland China)."
"The two sides of the Taiwan Strait, based on the 'one China' principle, agreed that either side can freely interpret what 'one China' means in a verbal form. This means that the mainland can claim that the People's Republic of China represents all of China, while we can also claim that the Republic of China represents the whole of China."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
