"âThe four things that come to mind when people think of Africa are population, problems, poverty, and promise unfulfilled â headline media reports on the continent. But thatâs not the whole story,â"
"Augie-Kuta is the first female politician to run for the house of representatives primaries under a major party for the Argungu-Augie Federal Constituency in Kebbi State, Nigeria."
"âBetween the 1980s and now the image of famine and wars has been ingrained in peopleâs minds. Thatâs a narrative thatâs going to be hard to shift,â"
"Do not give up on anything in life, no matter how long it takes."
"I think the important thing is maybe allow the fans to see what they want to see. We don't want to put anyone into a corner where it's likeâSo other people feel like they're not represented."
"He is Shiroâs significant other, They werenât married yet, but thatâs the road they were going down Him being gay was just something that we had always wanted to do with him from early on."
"It was something that came up right from the get-go, but as you know, from the beginning we kind of thought we were going to kill Shiro at one point. And so weâre like, âYâknow what? We donât really want to kill off our gay representation. Maybe weâll find it somewhere else.â But then we found out pretty soon after that, Shiro wasnât allowed to die. Well, all right, we go back to plan one and yeah, it just took us a little while to get to the point in the story where we were able to reveal it. But he was kind of always in the works to be our [gay] representation. Itâs a very normal part of his life and itâs just a very normal part of our story. It wasnât supposed to be, like, scandalous or surprising or-- Itâs just daily life. And I think we kind of try to envision a world where all of those things are just normal and accepted and people donât freak out about them. It doesnât change who he is at all."
"It was exciting. The idea of having this character, who had been so much to so many people. And none of that was based on his sexual orientation, And just to reveal that he is a gay man, and that in no way changes his relationships with any of these people, anything that heâs done. Sometimes itâs amazing to have the stories where the character is finding themselves, but then itâs also incredibly important to have the stories where this character is fully formed, and heâs a gay man, and heâs doing amazing things. And heâs flawed, and he has his own problems. That was why I loved the idea of having Shiro be our representation."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
