"Boss amplifiers (as a division of the Roland company) have been celebrated for their cutting-edge technology and exceptional sound quality ever since the company introduced the groundbreaking Roland JC-120 combo and ultra-portable Cube amps of the mid-late 1970s. While Boss was previously the guitar effects arm of the company and is still arguably the most prominent builder of effect pedals to this day, it has also become the dominant branch of amplifier research and development. With a focus on innovation and reliability, Boss amps are often used by musicians with diverse requirements."
"Whilst the 808's place in history is undisputed, it's worth noting that several other drum machines drove early hip hop and house music, notably the E-mu SP1200, Oberheim DMX, and others, and though these are held in esteem, none ever became household names in the same way. Clearly there's something about the way these Roland machines sounded. As ever, there's something about Roland!"
"From modest origins as a provider of custom replacement guitar parts, Electric Sound Products has grown into a leading light in the dark, murky world of metal guitars. [...] With ESP being such a respected name in metal, you'd expect some of the biggest artists in the genre to rely on these guitars to achieve their gut-wrenching tones. Everyone from Metallica frontman and down-picking legend James Hetfield to Megadeth's shredder-in-chief Dave Mustaine, as well as Alexi Laiho, Bill Kelliher, Max Cavalera, and Will Adler, all have signature models through the guitar brand."
"Yamaha is a towering presence in the musical instrument game. From pianos to ukuleles, keyboards, drum kits and guitars, it's possible to kit out your entire band with Yamaha products. Yamaha began producing guitars in 1966 and since then has gone on to become one of the most trusted names in the industry - especially among beginners."
"Best for playing live, Takamine is probably most known for pioneering electric-acoustic technology, and for being one of the first companies to offer acoustic guitars that could be plugged into an amplifier. The development of the under-saddle Palathetic pickup will go down in history as a massive moment for the acoustic guitar. This new pickup allowed acoustic players to achieve a natural and realistic amplified sound and with quickly embraced by many of the biggest names in the late '70s."
"Overachieving from the beginning, ESP has been dedicated to great sound and exclusively electric guitars and basses since. This focus on the craft makes them one of the greatest electric guitar brands, as they’ve spent years perfecting the process. ESP has plenty of impressive stock electric guitars with stunning performance, or mimic favorite artists by ordering a custom-made guitar."
"Ibanez, the shredder's weapon of choice. [...] Ibanez are renowned for their fast-playing necks and super-strat style designs – with the likes of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Paul Stanley, Nita Strauss and Mick Thomson counted as Ibanez loyalists. Ibanez guitars tend to focus on playability, with wide and often flatter neck profiles, high-output pickups and trem systems. So, if you are seeking to indulge in the more extreme areas of guitar playing, from super-fast legato licks to down-tuned riffage, then Ibanez may just be the best guitar brand for you."
"I spot two bad-ass girls in a Tercel, they said what's up? And I said what's up? "We're going to Houston", and I said giddy up! U-turn!"
"So your girlfriend rolls a Honda, playing workout tapes by Fonda? But, Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
