"We should not just depend on prayers but must also work hard to respond to the economic hardships the Country is facing. For prayer to yield results, it has to go with action. No matter how many times Zambians will cry and shout to God for help to improve the Country's economy, their prayers will yield nothing in the absence of hard work."
"Repent and turn away from evil. At the moment we still believe that all 16 presidential candidates have good reasons to serve the people. The selfish reasons will only become apparent when the outcome of the election is known."
"We experienced periods of political turbulence, fortunately without tragic consequences such as civil wars or similar events. We have reached a sufficient degree of political maturity. This does not mean that we have completely reached it, we are still developing it. But I wonder: how long did it take Europe to develop a democratic system? 200 years? 250 years? We are only 50 years old and we are not behaving badly; we have no complexes about our "democratic credentials" or how to do election campaigns and so on."
"Before you vote, ask yourself: how are my neighbors economically and socially doing? Each of you should not look to your own interests, but to the interests of others."
"Arm yourselves not with a party panga, but with your NRC and voter's Card. Your vote and not violence is what will be count at the end of the day. As you line up to vote, remember the millions of Zambians who are not able to vote because they are under-age. If you put your selfishness before the future of those not yet able to vote, you shall be held responsible"
"It is our duty to proclaim the Good News. Our approach to evangelisation is based on an integral vision of the human person, as a spiritual being who lives in the world. We proclaim salvation not only in heaven but already here on earth. We do not say "we are waiting for a perfect world in heaven" instead we say there is a world waiting for the saving message of the Lord. This is why we are active also in the social field."
"There is no reason why "bad news" should continue to take center stage and to spread everywhere at lightening speed while "the Good News" is relegated into the background and/or never heard at all. It is our responsibility as "Missionaries of Today" to champion with enthusiasm the dissemination of the Good News of victory of truth over lies, love over hatred, forgiveness over vengeance, humility over pride, unity over division, and peace over war."
"The African Christian family is the fundamental unit of the Church and its source of dynamism, joy and hope. However, it is beset with innumerable problems."
"Corruption is a virus that swallows up everyone's life: doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists. It is swallowing up the life of innocent citizens. Due to the incidence of corruption, the country continues to deteriorate: patients who die at the hands of immoral doctors; buildings that collapse due to jackal engineers; money lost at the hands of incompetent economists and accountants. Humanity dies because of incompetent scholars and justice goes to the hands of unscrupulous judges."
"The desire to be heard is one of the most basic human demands in today's world. Communication does not take place if listening has not taken place, and there is no good journalism without the ability to listen well. Society is losing the ability to listen well both in everyday interactions and when debating issues of society."
"The living out of the Good News that is the coming of the Kingdom of justice and peace is being blocked and undermined by the economic injustices that disregard the basic conditions for human dignity and integral human development. Jesus' mission of proclaiming the Good News to the poor is our mission as Church and therefore we must necessarily address the conditions within which the poor are greatly suffering."
"Cardinal Mazombwe was always among us in his humble way as one at our service. He was a man of conviction, a man of faith, a man of prayer."
"To me, he's a man who symbolizes what it means to be a man of service.. service for the people of God and service for the Church."
"The ministry of a Bishop must help to make the world which is becoming dehumanized become Ecclesia, a people in communion and a worshipping people."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
