"In any case, we are more than willing to cooperate in education, because it is a fundamental sector in the development of any nation, on the other hand, we want to preserve the wonderful legacy left by the missionaries, who have done an excellent job through schools."
"The planting of the Catholic Church in this country was a very costly, indeed very bloody, enterprise, in terms of human lives lost. It is very important, therefore, that we keep alive the memory of this tragic chapter in the history of our Church in Sierra Leone. But it is even more important that we maintain and promote a missionary consciousness at all levels in our local Church as it is the best homage we could pay to those who sacrificed their lives in the process of establishing the Church in our land."
"Inculturation is going to be the background of evangelisation in Africa. But it will have to be not only by Bishops and priests but by the people themselves. They know their cultures, songs and traditions, etc. We love life, ceremonies and rituals. This is a great step towards inculturation."
"We should give ample recognition to the role of the Holy Spirit in the dynamic of faith. The Holy Spirit should be given greater prominence in all our efforts towards new evangelization for the transmission of the Christian faith."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
