"Our strength, the strength of our people, our vicariate and our diocese is faith. We have a very deep-rooted faith, people trust in God, they place their hope in God that the future holds something good for them."
"The reaction to my appointment was overwhelming. When the Nuncio asked me to meet him to tell me, I was overwhelmed because I would never have expected it. God wanted me to serve in this way and so I prayed and accepted his will."
"The Catholic Church is very appreciated, the esteem and affection that surrounds us is enormous, people are grateful for the social activities we carry out in the various areas. The political authorities respect us, as do the various faith communities, because we promote peace. In fact, we are known for our peaceful coexistence with other religions. Whenever there is a small conflict, people prefer to call on Catholics as witnesses to reconcile the other groups."
"Faith-based organizations are standing for forming the human person in the image and likeness of God which is fundamentally important. Any less then that is something that we have to work on."
"He became the servant of his brethren, making available to them those choice qualities with which he was endowed, such as his vast knowledge acquired though study, especially in the field of law. However, over and above his pastoral work, more than anything he gave of himself, demonstrating everywhere holiness of life and constant apostolic longing."
"I believe that today our African Churches need a lay faithful who bears witness of a deeply Christian life, a lay faithful who has a very strong spine, a lay person who is committed and inspires confidence to his own Church and who contributes to its self-sufficiency in material needs. For how long must we depend on our sister Churches for our material needs? A lay faithful who has been deeply formed by solid Christian principles would be a great help for solving many problems which oppress us."
"We come from all over the world, Africa, Asia, Latin America, but we have found that our experiences and concerns are similar. Poor social-economic conditions in our countries make life difficult for all. A serious problem is poverty which affects young people in particular. Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
