"The future of society and of the Church lies in the necessity to evangelise and fortify families, because the family has an important role in the Church and as a "domestic church." The Sacrament of Matrimony is the source of the family as a reality created by God. Men and women of today must be made aware of the authentic Catholic teaching on marriage and the family and the Church, so each family may realise its call to be a "domestic church" in all its significance."
"Today, more than ever, human life is threatened at its most crucial stages from the beginning to the end. Government campaigns, supported by powerful transnational associations, try to solve the problem through the massive distribution of contraceptives. Enlightened by the Holy Spirit, the Catholic Church is assuming, with an increasing lucidity, the defense of humans conceived but not yet born, as an essential part of its mission of evangelization and liberation."
"Bolivia is right now in need of profound changes, in order to become a homeland for all people. This leads us, as Bishops, to make continual appeals so that everything may take place in tranquility, without violence, without hate or revenge. This is the call that we are constantly making, asking all to be capable of dialoguing, of healing wounds, working towards national reconciliation."
"Latin America, with the exception of course of some small groups, has always manifested itself with a strong ecclesial communion with the Holy Father and adherence to his teaching. I believe that the episcopates move in that perspective and also all the organizations of the People of God. I believe the main challenge is to maintain this unity, to make it patent in difficult moments, to express it."
"Being the Afro-Bolivian king – their first among equals – means a lot; I am realising that now. It is a position of utmost responsibility. I will do it proudly, as long as my people support me, as long as we will walk together, because I am not that much of a political animal anyway. But working for the "Afros" will be a difficult task, and I will be dealing with very delicate situations."
"My title is mostly symbolic, I'm not like these rich kings of Europe, but I represent the Afro-Bolivian community, and this is a huge responsibility to me."
"We are called to be witnesses to Jesus; if we are witnesses we are missionaries. To be witnesses we must learn to live with Christ who is always with us."
"Celebrating the Eucharist means celebrating who we are, always living our priestly identity, our ministry or service of making the Lord's Supper present. What greatness we possess! And what a responsibility! Are we astounded by this self-giving and this responsibility before Christ and the Church? At least we should be."
Young though he was, his radiant energy produced such an impression of absolute reliability that Hedgewar made him the first sarkaryavah, or general secretary, of the RSS.
- Gopal Mukund Huddar
Largely because of the influence of communists in London, Huddar's conversion into an enthusiastic supporter of the fight against fascism was quick and smooth. The ease with which he crossed from one worldview to another betrays the fact that he had not properly understood the world he had grown in.
Huddar would have been 101 now had he been alive. But then centenaries are not celebrated only to register how old so and so would have been and when. They are usually celebrated to explore how much poorer our lives are without them. Maharashtrian public life is poorer without him. It is poorer for not having made the effort to recall an extraordinary life.
I regret I was not there to listen to Balaji Huddar's speech [...] No matter how many times you listen to him, his speeches are so delightful that you feel like listening to them again and again.
By the time he came out of Franco's prison, Huddar had relinquished many of his old ideas. He displayed a worldview completely different from that of the RSS, even though he continued to remain deferential to Hedgewar and maintained a personal relationship with him.
