Gennady Yanayev

Gennady Yanayev (26 August 1937 – 24 September 2010) was a Soviet politician. He was vice president of the country in 1990–1991. He served as nominal acting president of the USSR for three days during the 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt against Mikhail Gorbachev, but the leaders of the coup were unable to assert their authority over the country and were quickly deposed. After being pardoned in 1994, he worked in the Russian tourism administration.
