Benjamin Ide Wheeler
(July 15, 1854 – May 2, 1927) was a professor of Greek and comparative philology at Cornell University from 1886 to 1899, author, and president of the from 1899 to 1919. He received honorary doctorates from 8 universities. In 1917, the University of California, Berkeley named the newly-opened in his honor. The , launched in November 1942, was named in his honor.
