"The sky is pitch black with smoke. The ocean is dark, incredibly dark. In the distance I can see land. According to navigation it's Lisbon and the coast of Portugal."
"It's on fire. Everything is on fire. The flames, they're reaching all the way into the sky. It's unreal. [...] Nothing but a massive firestorm covering the continent."
"Just reviving a dead person doesn't seem to work that well. A robot body seems to make people a bit... unreliable. You are the best of both worlds. A sound mind in a sound body."
"Where is the line drawn for what is human and what is not? Would walking corpses do? Would a group of machines thinking they're human be acceptable? We can't trust a machine to know, to understand what it means to be."
"My reflection in the black blood of our Warden whispers. I need to save them from this hell. I need to let them sleep. Lock them in their lucid dreams I've seen."
"You know what sucks about dying? The crash. Everything up till now. The brain damage, you guys, everything— it has made my life so much more real. I started thinking about all the things I was going to do. I'd never been more excited to be alive! All that hope... wasted."

"[narrating] Before I could convince myself to tell 2B the truth, our final major operation had begun. Still, at the time, I knew nothing. Not how the battle would end... Nor what fate stood in wait for us."
"[before escaping from 2B and 9S] Command is the one who betrayed you."
"Glory to mankind."
"[at the end of Route A] What is it that separates machines from androids like us? The machines have gained emotions...consciousness. The final screams they summoned on the edge of death... They still echo within me."
"[at the end of Route B] And so, the final battle with Adam and Eve came to an end. This battle will likely have a great effect on the outcome of the war. 2B and I—our battle will continue for some time to come. But that's another story for another day."
"I—or we machine lifeforms, I suppose—have a keen interest in humanity. Love. Family. Religion. War. The human records I unearth, the more charmed I am about their complexity. This city is one of the many areas I created out of a desire to understand—to know—humans. It's grand, don't you think? Almost...spiritual. And yet it's currently nothing more than an android graveyard!"
"[opening lines] Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped... in a never-ending spiral of life and death. Is it a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle... and wonder if we'll have the chance to kill him."
"I never quite realized... how beautiful this world is. I'm coming, everyone... I'm...coming..."
"[before placing a memorial in Emil's home] 2B. I'm not quite sure what it means to mourn, or even if we have a soul to concern ourselves with... But I hope you're at rest, 2B. Sweet dreams. I'll be with you before long."
"(beginning narration) It began, as always, with the desire for power. The need to conquer, the hunger to consume. Inevitably, this led to conflict. Humanity fought at endless battle against itself... Until it was forced to unite against a power far greater than it had even known. But even united, humanity left only destruction in its wake. Despite their best efforts to survival, the humans of Sera continute to march blindly to their imminent doom... unaware that their misguided attempts at retaliation were only leading them ever closer to extinction. (Flashbacks from Gears of War 1). They had thought us crippled by their weapons of mass destruction. But to survive is to endure and prosper. And we have most certainly survived. Jasinto now stands as the last bastion of humanity, a final, desperate defense in the face of impossible odds. In a way, i pitty them... but humanity, as always, brought this war upon itself. (The end of the cutscene with the Crimson Omen)."
"(ending narration) Your world can end in the blink of an eye. One event, one unexpected twist of fate and suddenly the world as you know it... is gone forever. All that you held dear, all that you held close is washed away into the sea of distant memory. Life... is cruel. Of this I have no doubt. But life continues on... with or without you. One can only hope that one leaves behind a lasting legacy. But so often the legacies that we leave behind... are not the ones that we intended."
"(after the credits message) This is Adam Fenix... Is anyone out there...? Can you hear me...? This is Adam Fenix... Can you hear me...? What have you done...?!"
"(Prescott gives a speech to rally the COG army before a massive attack on the Locust) Humans are no strangers to war. After all, we've been fighting for as long as we can remember. War is all we know. In the past, we fought for imulsion. We fought for country. We fought for freedom. But all that changed after E-Day. For fifteen years, we've been fighting for our very survival against inhuman, genocidal monsters. But it is a fight we cannot continue. Humanity faces extinction, unless we end this war now. We had hoped the Lightmass bombing would decimate the Locust Horde. But they survived. And have returned, stronger than ever. They've brought with them a force that can sink entire cities. Even Jacinto, our last beacon of hope through all these dark days, is now at risk. Soon we'll have nothing left to defend. And that means we have only one option: attack. Gears, what I ask of you now is not an easy thing, but it is necessary. If we are to survive. If we are to live long enough to see the seasons pass, our children grow and experience a time of peace that we have never known, then we must now take this fight to the Locust! We will go to where they live and where they breed and we will destroy them! This is the day we take the battle to the heart of the enemy. This is the day that we correct the course of human history! This is the day that we ensure our survival as a species! Soldiers of the COG, my fellow Gears, go forth and bring back the hope of humanity!"
"Trading heavily on its nuclear theme, the Fallout video game series has so far teetered between satirizing the Bomb, and reveling in its power. But now it may be toppling over that fine line. These games are almost certainly the most well-known (and well-loved) media that deal with nuclear weapons today. Fallout must therefore be taken seriously as an influence on the real-world politics and culture of nuclear weapons in the 21st century."
"The Fallout universe paints a picture of a dystopian future. It exists in what people on the cusp of the atomic revolution in the 1950s saw as the sci-fi world of tomorrow... if several thousand nuclear bombs were dropped on it. It's a quaint sci-fi view of a future filled with atomic cars, robot servants, and incredibly basic computer terminals. A nuclear war has taken away most of these technological comforts, providing the backdrop for a game with a dreary, desperate atmosphere filled with glib and dark humor. It's a world that is both fantastic and somehow believable. And it is one that's exciting to explore."
