"[first lines] There are few places hard to get to in this world. But there aren't any where it's harder to live. The average temperature here at the bottom of the Earth is a balmy 58 degrees below. That's when the sun is out. It wasn't always like this. Antarctica used to be a tropical place densely forested and teeming with life. But then the continent started to drift south. And by the time it was done drifting, the dense forests had all been replaced with a new ground cover, Ice. As for the former inhabitants, they had all died or moved on long ago. Well, almost all of them. Legend has it that one tribe stayed behind. Perhaps they thought the change in weather was only temporary. Or maybe they were just stubborn. But whatever their reasons, these stalwart souls refused to leave. For millions of years they have made their home on the darkest, driest, windiest and coldest continent on Earth. And they've done so pretty much alone. So in some ways this is a story of survival. A tale of life over death. But it's more than that, really. This is a story about love."
"[last lines] And they will march just as they have done for centuries, ever since the emperor penguin decided to stay, to live and love in the harshest place on Earth."
"[in trailer] There is a mysterious ritual that dates back thousands of years. No living creature has survived it except the penguin. They have wings but cannot fly. They're birds that think they're fish. And every year, they embark on a nearly impossible journey to find a mate. For twenty days and twenty nights, the emperor penguin will march to a place so extreme it supports no other life. In the harshest place on Earth, love finds a way. This is the incredible true story of a family's journey to bring life into the world: March of the Penguins."

"[to the predatory skuas] Retribution is near my fine feathered friends. Make no mistake about that. [as he attacks the skuas with a catapult] You've asked for it, now you'll get it! Now it's your turn! You hear me? Go on, get out! GET OUT! ALL OF YOU! Die, damn you! Die! DO YOU HEAR ME? DIE! DIE!"
"[after waiting for days and no penguins in sight] Well, if they're so strapped to the life force that they have to find their way back here to this refrigerated graveyard every year, that's their bad luck. God, I wish they'd get here and get it over. Oh, blast you all, wherever you are!"
"[as he spots the first lone penguin waddling down a snowy hillside] Most revered and welcome bird! I greet you!"
"[writing to Tara after a Navy chopper scares away all the penguins] The wretched birds have been scattered over this benighted landsacpe like bits of black pepper. They've used up so much of their courage already. Will they be able to find enough to come back? I wonder? I'm afraid."
"[In his final taped message to Tara] They'll be back again next year, struggling over the same barren stretch of ice to breed the next generation. And so it will go on, as long as there are penguins and skuas and the will to survive. And what have I learned from it all? That every living creature depends in some way on every other. Humans too. I'm not the same to myself anymore, Tara. Will I seem the same to you, and you to me?"

"It's a really fascinating way to construct a story because we're doing it by autopsy, by examining very, very closely everything we know about the Norwegian camp and about the events that happened there from photos and video footage that's recovered, from a visit to the base, the director, producer and I have gone through it countless times marking, you know, there's a fire axe in the door, we have to account for that…we're having to reverse engineer it, so those details all matter to us ‘cause it all has to make sense."
"We’re finding so much from Carpenter’s movie that you think you’ve seen, but in actually it allows us to come up with certain twists on what we have that will allow people to be on the edge of their seat, and not know who’s going to make it and who’s not."

"“It was the way I felt watching The Thing the first time I saw it in a movie theatre,” he continued. “I just really connected to it. This crazy suspense leads to terror to a place suspense rarely ever gets to…The paranoia amongst the characters was so strong, trapped in that enclosure for so long, that it just bounced off all the walls until it had nowhere to go but out into the audience. That is what I was trying to achieve with The Hateful Eight.”"

"[talking into tape recorder] I'm gonna hide this tape when I'm finished. If none of us make it, at least there'll be some kind of record. The storm's been hitting us hard now for 48 hours. We still have nothing to go on. [turns off tape recorder and takes a drink of whisky. He looks at the torn long johns and turns it back on] One other thing: I think it rips through your clothes when it takes you over. Windows found some shredded long johns, but the nametag was missing. They could be anybody's. Nobody... nobody trusts anybody now, and we're all very tired. Nothing else I can do, just wait... R.J. MacReady, helicopter pilot, US outpost number 31. [turns off recorder]"
