"The Eucharist as a simple meal without laughing after it we are facing a danger that has been a long time ago here and there which is the vision of the Holy Meeting of the Father through a person of his son who transformed into an imperfect manner into a club of friends who meet around one table and between us except love and affection."
"Unfortunately, there is this migratory flow towards the West that causes Africa to lose its youth. The Church must reflect on this by asking the question: why do the youth leave? They leave because they are seeking a better life. We are not doing enough to retain our youth."
"On the national level, the Eucharist becomes for us the way to true unity: as was asserted by the Fathers of the Special Synod for Africa, we try to make clear how much the Blood of Christ by itself can realize the unity of the nation that has more than 50 ethnic peoples, ready to oppose each other and enter battle especially when they are manipulated by politicians for electoral reasons."
"For an authentic realisation of the universality of the Church, the Church needs its African harmonics. The task is not always simple; we must be conscious of our own lacks and weaknesses doubled by the external pressures and doubts. We are invited to reconquer our creative imagination and trust in ourselves in view of a creative action within the faithfulness of Jesus Christ and in communion with he who presides the universal "Agape"."
"Inculturation is only cultural; it must be cultural and anthropologic at the risk of only being folklore."
"I am pleased that, in the figure of Archbishop Isidore de Souza, the Church has contributed to a change of course towards democracy in our country."
"You know well that Archbishop de Sousa was a friend of the truth and that he played a decisive role in your country's transition to democracy."
"The great vitality of the African Churches is a motive for joy and action of grace. However, there are some signs of worry: passage to the sects, if not foundation of the sects, return and recourse to ancestral practices without discernment in moments of crisis. Evangelisation has not been able to make us discover truly the identity of the Christian being, nor attain the level of depth which is in authentic anthropological inculturation."
"In fact, Africa is afraid and lives in fear. Jealously keeping her discoveries about the world and nature, she naturally falls into mistrust, suspicion, a self-defensive attitude, aggressiveness, charlatanism, divination, occultism and syncretism, so many facets that contribute to obstructing the search for the true God during the millennia. So much is expected on this continent, mother of us all, the even more radiant luster of the light of the crucified and risen Christ!"
"Lived fully, the ministers of reconciliation make of those who follow Jesus Christ, "true doers" and actors of peace. The righteous man, justified in Christ by the ministry of the Church is then an effective actor for a righteous and reconciled world. And if the lay faithful are better actors of reconciliation and peace, it is in the world where they find their vocation and mission."
