"We didn’t have power metal in mind when we called the band "Powerwolf"; it was more the power itself that fits the music, because the music is powerful! I think it's quite obvious that the spiritual basics of a religion, of a belief, do not have much in common with how religions are used. And we never say anything about that, and we never will, because in what we do in Powerwolf, it's not important what we as individuals believe or stand for. We sometimes describe religious history, we sometimes write about Satanism, Catholicism, or whatever, but we never judge anything. I think on one side, this is confusing people, but on the other side, a lot of people do understand that we only describe or write lyrics about something, not to deliver a message."

"Humour is essential in life. There are way too many people taking themselves far too seriously – and especially way too many bands taking themselves too seriously. I'm happy we've treasured the ability to write lyrics with tongue in cheek, and be able to laugh about ourselves. It's essential for our creativity, for us. But there's more behind it. It's very important for me to have some kind of humour in the lyrics to make sure we’re not religious preachers. We have a song like Resurrection By Erection. It’s obvious we’re not Catholic extremists. So that's why a certain slight humour will always be a part of Powerwolf."

"We write our music together. We don't work like most bands obviously do. We don't plan our music; we don't sit down and elaborate our riffs and vocal lines. In Powerwolf, songs must "happen" – which means we write our songs quite spontaneously. Someone has a basic idea and then we start playing. It often happens, that we write a song in not more than half an hour. It needs a certain magic, which you can't invoke or plan, it just has to happens."

"I do respect what they do, but as for me personally, I don't believe in dragons or wizards or whatever fuck, so it would be just ridiculous for me to write lyrics about wizards or something, so it never was a question to do something like that, because it's just not what comes out of our minds, so..."

"It was several years ago that I confessed to Attila that I am a huge fan of rock and metal ballads. Attila confessed the same thing. So that day we both agreed to write such a ballad, no matter what. Yet that was in the past and we felt we weren't ready for it yet. When we started to write Sacrament Of Sin, we decided that the album would contain more of a variation of songs. We also took on a more open-minded song writing process. We felt that this was the moment, this was the right time to write such a ballad. The thing is it takes the right song title, the right mood, the right melody and the right topic to write a ballad. Regardless, it was the right time to write the ballad and it’s one of the highlights of the album."
