Herbert Hunger

Herbert Hunger (1914–2000) was an Austrian Byzantinist and a Wehrmacht soldier. He was the first professor of Byzantine studies in Austria from 1962 to 1985, president of the International Association of Byzantine Studies from 1976 to 1986, and president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 1973 to 1982.
